The population of priests in the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland is thinning rapidly, and will force the church to make painful, fundamental changes, according to a study commissioned by diocesan leaders.
It says the priesthood is shrinking. That trend threatens to reduce services at many churches, close others and, some fear, deprive needy communities of necessary services.
