ONE GOAL IN THIS LIFE SHOULD BE TO HAVE THE SMOOTHEST PASSAGE INTO THE NEXT

The word "Sha'lom" from Hebrew means "peace," or also "harmony with the elements." We might say: harmony with God and His Creation. Live balanced. Take things as they come. Ride the waves.

I'm reading a book called Fifty Secrets of the World's Longest-Living People and what lessons are to be learned! Harmony brings health. And health brings harmony. In those long-lived villages, folks feel good and as a result get along. They're content and happy. They pray.

More on that soon. I'll have a special report.

But this little snippet, about a woman on the island of Symi, in Greece, known for the longevity of its inhabitants, tells us much:

"Esmeralda Stavra was 107 when she died," writes author Sally Beare. "Her son and daughter-in-law, Manoles and Maria, say: 'Her house was at the top of the village steps, and even when she was 100 years old she went up and down them three or four times a day so that she could sell the feta cheese and yogurt she made.'

"Esmeralda was never sick during her lifetime and never went for a checkup with the doctor.

"Maria says, 'When she died, my mother thought she had just gone to sleep -- that's how quickly she went.'

"Manoles and Maria believe that Espermalda's health was due to hard work and not too much food. 'I think the food has to do with this,' says Maria. 'There's no sugar, and they don't have diabetes like they do where they eat a lot of rubbish. She had fish about twice a week, but not much meat. She preferred not to eat meat at all. She ate mostly vegetables and salads, with bread, olives, cheese, and tomatoes. The vegetables were never sprayed. They don't use butter, only olive oil. She also drank a little bit. She was also a very spiritual person -- they had less worries than we do now."

Stress. Reduce stress. It's a community where living to be 100 is not unusual. Garlic. Fruits. Vegetables. Extra-virgin olive oil. Whole-wheat bread. A lot of water. Food lightly cooked. Nothing processed -- at all. Prayer. And exercise! Keep the body moving. Don't "program" yourself to age faster than you have to. And don't tell yourself you can't do something unless you really can't.
