IN THE WALK WITH GOD ARE THE AMAZING WAYS HE SPEAKS THROUGH 'COINCIDENCES'

See Explanation. Clicking on the picture will download
the highest resolution version available. You've all heard the expression that coincidences are God's way of remaining anonymous. There are those who refer to happenstance as "God-incidents."

However we phrase it, there are certainly events that occur way beyond the tally of normal odds.

Someone calls at a particular time. During a critical moment, you see a confirmation of something in the newspaper -- or on TV, or best of all, in the Bible.

Things happen that seem invisibly orchestrated.

And that's because they are.

There is a tapestry that won't be obvious to us until we're in Heaven.

It's like needlepoint: right now we see only the disjointed little knots on the underside.

Is it angels who organize our "luck"?

There are certainly cases that go way beyond what any actuary could explain. Some years back, in 1996, a fellow named Vincent Tan who had been on television speaking about angel experiences heard his phone in the middle of the night. When he picked it up, there was a woman on the line -- from the Midwest (he was in the Tennessee) -- and she was answering as if he had called her.

Both their phones had rung in some kind of fantastic crossing of lines. They got into a conversation and it turns out that the woman's mother was dying and had been praying to meet this man she had seen on television speaking of angels!

It was her dying wish.

That man was Vincent Tan.

(The woman died right after speaking to him.)

There was another case whereby a Christian musician from the West Coast was in Dayton, Ohio, and going through a "dark night" of the soul when -- walking down a street he had never walked before, on the way to buy a Coke -- he heard a payphone ringing. He strode over and picked it up. Incredibly, it was the operator, saying there was a person-to-person call -- for his name!

It was a woman who said she was about to commit suicide and desperately wanted to speak to this Christian minister whom she had seen here too on television. In her mind like neon she had seen the numbers she was now calling. It was so incredulous he thought he was on Candid Camera!

He was that musician and it not only saved her life but also his ministry.

Any scientist who tries to explain that away is a scientist who simply will never accept anything that is supernatural.

And of course, that is hardly objective. Luck?

A tornado chases legislators out of a building in Illinois. A quake sends them scrambling (back in 1989) from the City Hall in San Francisco. A series of world events suddenly converge, reshaping us.

The instances are legion. You probably have them occur. Send them in to us.

In fact, many signs and miracles are just that: coincidences, large or small, all with direction and meaning.

We see something at a moment we need to see and it may not seem like anything to the skeptic, but we know the feeling that went with it!

As St. Paul said: too many practice the form of religion but not the power of it. Let God send you miracles!

We know of cases where folks have lost for example a ring on the beach and stumbled on it a distance away years later (in one case, scooping it up in a fishing net!).

In Greenwood, Indiana, a woman whose son had been killed in a hit-and-run was driving to a store when something made her divert into a mobile park where she spotted a van matching the description of the hit-and-run vehicle -- which it was.

She wrote down the number and the driver was arrested, the van bearing tell-tale marks of the accident!

In another case, a choir director walked into a pawn shop after an instrument was stolen from his church and saw a man trying to pawn it!

When regular, subtle luck doesn't work, the angels can be awfully direct! Most recently in the news (Yahoo):

"A British man has met and married a 22-year-old woman after, by his own account, dreaming of her phone number and sending her a text message.

"David Brown, 24, says he woke up one morning after a night out with friends with a telephone number constantly revolving through his head. He decided to contact it, sending a message saying, 'Did I meet you last night?'

"Random recipient Michelle Kitson was confused and wary at first but decided to reply and the two began exchanging messages. Eventually they married and fell in love."

God shapes our destinies down to the smallest detail.

Let Him.

Just days ago, we had an article on how the molecule that binds cells together in our bodies (laminin) is shaped like a Cross -- as in Colossians 1:15-17, where it tells us that Christ "is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."

Is that a coincidence?

God knows not chance.

Worth meditating upon: the circumstances which came together -- were woven -- to form who and where and what you are.

"God speaks quietly," Pope Benedict XVI once wrote. "But He gives us all kinds of signs. In retrospect, especially, we can see that He has given us a little nudge through a friend, through a book, or through what we see as a failure – even through 'accidents.' Life is actually full of these silent indications. If we remain alert, then slowly they piece together a consistent whole, and we begin to feel how God is guiding us."
