Polish newspaper has advanced the theory
that Pope John Paul II (bio

this year, which would be the 30th
anniversary of his election to the papacy.
The Vatican has not commented on the
report that appeared in the Dziennik
newspaper. But the cause for beatification
of the late Pontiff still has several
hurdles to clear, and the Vatican would
undoubtedly want to allow a substantial
period of time to prepare for the
beatification ceremony.
Earlier in April the postulator for the
cause, Msgr. Slawomir Oder, reported that he
was nearly finished with a position,
or final summary of the case, for
presentation to the Congregation for the
Causes of Saints. If the Congregation
approves a finding that Pope John Paul II
showed "heroic virtue," the approval of a
miracle would still be necessary to fulfill
the requirements for canonization.
In related news, the spokesman of Krakow
archdiocese, Father Robert Necek, told the
newspaper Gazeta Wyborza that
Krakow’s Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, who
served as John Paul II’s private secretary,
opposes dismembering the late Pope’s body
