Of signs and purgatory
Here's a strange question for you: have you ever gone on a run of finding coins, particularly pennies, but maybe dimes or whatever, in strange places, spots where they don't seem likely to have fallen out of your purse or pocket?
We found this after the recent deaths of some close relatives. And have seen it in other cases -- spoken with others who've lost a loved one and experienced the coin happenstance or something like feathers.
Let's stay on pennies.
Maybe it's all that's needed: just a "penny" for a soul to be lifted out of a particular place in the afterlife: one last Mass, candle, novena, or simple heartfelt prayer. We even had an article a while ago on a book called Penny Prayer: True Stories of Change, precisely on this arcane topic. (See here)
The
other day it happened again (a penny there on the floor of the
bathroom, near the shower stall, as one stepped out) and right after,
this reading at daily Mass (Luke 12:59): "I
tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”
Can we apply this to purgatory? Might the scripture also be an admonition on the afterlife? If so, then we are left with an explanation why a departed soul might somehow provoke the materialization or placement of a penny or other item in an odd place where it will make an impression. Like dreams, it may be a reminder.
Perhaps the use of coins might be described as resorting to means on the fly. Supernatural autoschediasm?
Just a notion, this. Let us know if you've had such situations. Just the other day, another one, this time between the kitchen and dining room where there was nothing moments before.
