THE MAIL: NOTION THAT WE ARE IN CALM BEFORE STORM TOUCHES THOSE WHO SENSE SUDDENNESS

Many are those who, it seems, have felt a strange lull -- and are waiting for another shoe to drop. It has been two years since the financial shock. Are the financial jolts over? Will something else occur? Does anyone really know? We recall that reputed "word of knowledge" from an addendum to the alleged 1990 prophecy which said, "The event to come will surprise everyone who has offered a prognostication."

Event or events (plural)?

"Dear children, I am beside you because I desire to help you to overcome trials, which this time of purification puts before you," said Mary at the reputed site of Medjugorje on September 2, using the plural for trials (although this may pertain to personal trials) and for the first time in such a message using the term "purification" (instead of "this time of grace"). Does it bear meaning?

At any rate, let's go to the mailbag:

Many are unsettled.

"Yes I feel it," wrote a viewer named Dawn Marie Roeder from Arizona. "Last night, before I even read this article today, I told my husband that something big is on the horizon. He wondered what I meant by this and to be honest I couldn't tell him exactly what it is but that I feel it coming and that I don't think that it is going to be good but that I think it's going to be another wake-up call."

"I felt impelled to respond," said another named Sean. "As I'm currently listening to my cuckoo clock 'tick, tick, tick' on our living room wall, it reminds me of this constant feeling to ready myself for an event that will transform the very way we live. With  most aspects of our society turned 180 degrees in the wrong, I can only wonder how long God will stay His Hand. People who I know and have trusted go about their days as all is good -- church-going people who pick and choose which elements of the Bible they will use or dismiss, as though they are above it."

"I feel this much more when I hear the droning on about the news -- and while watching the landscape of moral relativism continue to develop before my very eyes," opines Tim Suter of Illinois. "There's a calm before the storm."

"It definitely feels like the calm before the storm," agreed Amy Crandell of Richmond Hill, Georgia. "Perhaps prayer is the very thing that has allowed me to resist the tug of complacency and finish my preparations. [One person's] alleged locutions are telling us to prepare physically and some of us have been feeling an extremely urgent call to preparation that is beyond spiritual and into the physical for more than a year. Our Lord has been giving us time to prepare and to save souls up to the last. I’ve started having bad dreams again where I wake up calling out to Jesus and St. Michael and then in the morning wake up with a song of praise already on my lips. I have no doubt the battle has begun; most folks just don’t know it. The message I get is, 'time is short, use it well.' The last locution [from aforementioned seer] mentions 'critical mass' -- sudden indeed!"

For our consideration at this time when so many continue to float locutions. Down in Brazil, a widely known visionary continues to issue dire warnings to a different city or region every week. Is this scattershot that will occasionally hit a target, or a warning that events to come will affect many different places? How many years now have we heard warnings of something "imminent"?

Back to the mail:

Every year, prayer warriors in Canada report a luminosity that some say is miraculous and others may explain as in the architectural design -- or happenstance.

"For the third year, Saint Mary of the VII Sorrows Church in Kitchener, Ontario, was the site of an awesome phenomenon on September 15th, the feast of the Seven Sorrows of Our Blessed Mother," writes a correspondent named Janet [see photos at left]. "Again just after 7 p.m. the sun shining through a tiny piece of red glass in the large stained glass windows illuminated with a red glow the heart pierced by seven swords on the statue of Our Blessed Mother on the high altar. Again, as in the two previous years, it touched no other part of the statue or any other statue on the altar. In 2008 this phenomenon occurred shortly after 7 p.m. during a Mass in Her Honor. In 2009 it occurred again at 7:10 p.m. while several parishioners were praying the Seven Sorrows Rosary. They had come prepared this time with cameras in anticipation of a recurrence of the event.

"This year the phenomenon was witnessed by approximately three hundred people during a procession just before Mass in her honor and after having had Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament all day followed by Benediction and the Seven Sorrows Rosary.  The red glow started shortly after 7 p.m. at the lower left side of the High Altar and traveled at a sharp angle upward  and to the right until it reached the heart of the statue, illuminating it for about a minute.  As one witness described, it then dissipated without traveling any farther. This year in anticipation, staff and witnesses were in the church on Monday Sept 13 and Tuesday the 14th to see if this event might be occurring at any time other than on Her feast day but no reflection came near the heart of Mary.  This truly amazing event has occurred only on Her feast day, drawing attention to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Our Mother Mary. Will this happen again next year? To be sure there will be many more people attending with their prayers and petitions."

In the Protestant realm, a well-known Pentecostal who long has claimed "messages" is moving his family from Pensacola, Florida to Flathead, Montana (after thirty-five years at a Florida church). "By my family, I mean my wife and I, my daughter and her husband and their three children, my oldest son and his wife and their three boys, my youngest son and his wife and their one child, and my wife's mother and her husband," announced Pastor Chuck Baldwin, who has a nationwide following.

"That's five families and 17 people. Yes, my grown children and their spouses have felt the same calling. God has led us to the conviction that Montana (along with other Mountain states) is going to be the tip of the spear in the freedom fight; and we believe God wants us to be part of that fight. Furthermore, it is our studied opinion that America is headed for an almost certain cataclysm. As Christians, we suspect that this cataclysm could include the judgment of God. As students of history, we believe that this cataclysm will most certainly include a fight between Big-Government globalists and freedom-loving, independent-minded patriots. I would even argue that this fight has already started. And as this battle escalates (and it will most assuredly escalate), only those states that are willing to stand and fight for their independence and freedom will survive – at least in a state of freedom."

Is this prudence or does this go too far too fast?

The devil plays tricks, as we know, as does the subconscious -- making it difficult to discern.

"As I read today's top article asking readers about the calm before the storm: in my quiet prayer time I've gotten one message loud and clear which I see validated in my every day life," wrote  Mary Irene Ventura of Freeland, Maryland. "It is this: yes, open our hearts to love so that we may be both bearers and sharers of Love. God Himself is Love and He alone is our refuge.  I believe He desires for us to be completely filled with Him and that He, our Protector, our Guide, our Director will take care of the rest. I notice when I let Love take over, my life just flows and it flows peacefully and in many good and fruitful ways. So, no matter what may be ahead of us, if we stay completely focused on Christ, there is nothing to fear and there will be nothing we cannot do."
