ALL OF US NEED TO REMEMBER THAT TRUTH RESIDES FIRST AND OFTEN ONLY IN HEART

It's a shame that folks often make up their minds without a direct experience. For example, unless there is some glaring biblical or doctrinal error, it's not likely that one can make a full discernment of a major holy site without visiting and praying there, for the experience goes beyond where the intellect does.

Noted a religious author named Sister Emmanuel, in speaking about one especially powerful mystic, Vicka Mijatovic, who is known for effecting dramatic healings, "Whether she is laughing with the children, hugging them, or praying at length for the sick, or simply giving some news to families experiencing hardship, she brings comforts to everyone. She radiates such happiness that people feel a little bit of Heaven in her presence. I could not stop myself from thinking, 'If critics could only see what I am seeing and hearing right now, if only for two minutes, they would be won over! Conviction from the heart would remove all criticism. Heaven cannot be faked -- especially for twenty-six years -- it can only be lived."

We are not speaking of hundreds of healings, but thousands. To hear tremendous accounts, such as six tumors in a small child suddenly disappearing, and thinking anyone would want to scotch this, is at best befuddling.

All of us need to remember that truth resides first and often only in the spirit. Our faith is doctrine but more than that power. Nothing can be discerned but through the prism of love.

As a priest said Sunday, "What is the truth of it all? What is the answer to the riddle that worried Pontius Pilate? The Apostle Paul gives us the key when he explains that it is not the intellectual exercise in truth but the experience of truth that sets us free. 'Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up' he says (1 Corinthians 8:1). It also heals.

"In God's Grand Design, mere words, however beautiful, will never satisfy our hunger for the truth," he said. "In God's Grand Design, we must feed on the Bread of Life -- the very life of God -- in order to build up our human understanding of who we are and why we are and where we are going and how we are going to get there."

We must know this -- who we are!

And who we are is blueprinted in the deepest purest recesses of the heart.
