Lighting is a funny thing. During the Republican primaries in 2008, former New York Rudy Giuliani's microphone blipped off due to a lighting strike as he was hitting back at a bishop who had criticized the politician's stand in favor of abortion. It was all downhill for the former mayor after that. Last week, on the day a release date was set in the sensational Casey Anthony case, a bolt of lightning hit the wooded lot right where her daughter Caylee had been found. Even worldly "no nonsense" TV people were openly wondering about that. What was the meaning of it? At the same time -- in the same region of Florida -- lightning hit right near the space shuttle (before its final liftoff). Meaning there also (see the 1990 prophecy)? It is an area known, to be sure (Central Florida), for lighting, especially during the summer. There are an estimate one million cloud-to-ground strikes in Florida every year. A single major afternoon storm can throw thousands of lightning bolts, and the most lighting we have ever seen was in fact near Orlando, not far from a town of spiritualists, psychics, and mediums just a half an hour or so from where Caylee lived -- a spooky little village that is in this area also known for unexplained major accidents, cyclones (three passed over in 2004), old Indian burial mounds, and the Harry Potter theme park at Universal closer to Orlando itself (not to mention a custom at the spiritualists camp of putting out a bench called the "seat of Satan every Halloween). There is most often a spiritual dimension behind events but a dimension that is hard to decipher because, of course, it is unseen.  Lightning is also known to occur with special effect near a related spiritualist camp in Upstate New York. The lightning struck the Caylee lot at three p.m. This is the Hour of Mercy, and this hour also figured into the death, recently, of a very well-known Italian locutionist, Father Stefano Gobbi, who had reams of alleged messages, spanning decades, from the Blessed Mother. Is there likewise a spiritual issue when a mother who shows peculiar distance from a missing and then deceased daughter seems to have a significant portion of her personality missing and is described as "bipolar"? Is it what the Bible called "double-minded"? We report. You discern. Prayer need here. There is such a thing as "perfect possession." It is not for us to judge why that occurs. There is "double-minded." Only God knows who the victims are. To a degree the case is a reflection of a societal undercurrent that is selfish and anti-life and has changed the character of a nation. There is the term "legion." It is the summer of lightning -- or so it seems. Now, Friday (7/8/11), lightning nearly hit an opponent of the New Jersey governor as he was railing against the pro-life, anti-gay-marriage politician. (Does lightning seem a bit prominent around politicians?) There are striking photos of lighting over the White House. Lightning also figures into a number of near-death experiences and sometimes strikes particular people -- or at least in their vicinity -- more than once. God hurls lightning bolts in Scripture, and according to the highest-placed source -- Jesus -- Satan fell as a bolt of lightning. We saw lightning hit a lot next door to us seven years ago just after moving in (damaging some of our electronics; a priest who blessed our house felt there was spiritual resistance in the neighborhood; maybe we just didn't pray enough, when the black clouds were approaching).
