Has time sped up?

by Michael H. Brown

Does it seem like the world is spinning faster? Do the days seem to be flying by? Does it suddenly seem like there's no time to do anything?

That's the feeling I often get, and I'm not alone. I hear this from people across the United States: it's as if God has sped up the passage of time. I don't think the earth is rotating any faster, but it seems like that. You wake up and before you know it lunchtime is there and then it's time for dinner. Days fly; weeks flash. It's like we're on a runaway locomotive, and that should give us pause and cause us to discern.

Could time really be sped up? Is that true, or just the illusion of a hectic culture? I'm not sure, but sometimes it seems mystical, and in the Bible it says that God will hasten the moments so we don't have so long to wait before He intervenes. "And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened," says Matthew 24:22.
